On 10. July 2026 issued by the Ministry of the Environment SEA opinion on the proposal for defining acceleration areas for renewable energy sources. Based on this, the original proposal was significantly modified.
How many acceleration areas will there be?
Currently, a total of 61 acceleration areas:
- 49 areas for wind energy development,
- 12 areas for the development of photovoltaics.
What are acceleration areas for?
Acceleration areas are intended to facilitate and speed up the permitting of buildings using renewable energy sources and related infrastructure. However, this does not mean that new projects will not be possible outside these areas - they will simply not be subject to the simplified regime and the permitting process may be more time-consuming and administratively demanding.
The SEA opinion also sets out a number of conditions for environmental protection. These include, for example, animal protection measures, noise assessment requirements or other conditions that will need to be respected when preparing projects.
Now it will be on Ministry of Regional Developmentto incorporate these conditions into the draft amendment to the Territorial Development Plan, which will subsequently be submitted to the government.
The definition of acceleration areas is a significant step for investors, developers, municipalities and landowners. However, it also raises a number of legal issues – from assessing whether a specific project falls within an acceleration area, through spatial planning requirements and the permitting process itself.
