Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Construction law regulates processes related to construction, changes to buildings and spatial planning. It includes legal regulations related to construction management, permits, inspections and approval of buildings.

A building permit is an official document issued by a building authority that authorizes the construction or modification of a building. It is required for most construction projects, especially for new buildings, major renovations or changes in the use of the building.

A building permit is not needed, for example, for small constructions such as garden gazebos, garages, fences, swimming pools or reconstructions that do not interfere with supporting structures. We recommend that you always check this. These buildings are often only subject to reporting obligations at the building office.

  1. Project documentation – a project from an authorized designer.
  2. Application submission – the application for a building permit is submitted to the building authority together with the project documentation and the approvals of the authorities concerned (e.g. nature protection, fire brigade).
  3. Construction management – the building authority assesses the project and, if all conditions are met, issues a building permit.
  4. The permit is valid during two years, if it doesn't start building.
